    Germplasm Registration

Registered 4 unique germplasm accessions in 4 Dioscorea spp.: The Plant Germplasm Registration Committee of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research in its XVII meeting held on 16th February 2008 has registered 4 unique germplasm accessions in 4 Dioscorea spp. with NBPGR proposed by me, in which, presence of diosgenin was detected and quantified for the first time, which in future can be exploited as new sources for disogenin. These germplasm accessions were collected from south Western Ghats and are being maintained in the field genebank of the NBPGR Regional Station, Thrissur, Kerala.
