Technologies documented/transferred
Farmers’ participatory research cum demonstration plots on arecanut based cropping system: Cropping system models were successfully demonstrated in farmers gardens of Kerala and Karnataka for enhancing the productivity and profitability from unit area of arecanut garden.
Frontline demonstration on Management of black headed caterpillar in coconut: FLD on management of black headed caterpillar in coconut was successfully demonstrated in farmers’ gardens at Arasikere, Hassan district of Karnataka. The package includes mechanical collection and destruction of affected leaves, release of parasitoids, nutrient and water management etc.
Documentation of experiences of successful coconut growers in India: Documentation of experiences of successful coconut growers was done in major coconut growing states of India. Socio economic profile of farmers, farming practices, nutrient management, pest and disease management, innovative practices, linkage with research/extension agencies, value addition details, marketing etc. were collected and documented from 100 innovative coconut growers in India.
Demonstration plots on coconut based cropping system: Fifty demonstration plots on cocoa technologies were established in coconut gardens to promote coconut based cropping system in 2015 in five districts viz.,West Godavari, East Godavari, Krishna, Vishakapatinam and Vizianagaram of Andhra Pradesh. Twenty five plots on improved varieties, five plots each on pruning, integrated nutrient management, organic farming, pest & disease management and post harvest processing. Farmers who had interest in taking up scientific interventions were selected with the help of Department of Horticulture and Mondelez International after following the principles of participatory research. Their socio–economic background, available resources, farming details, farming practices, knowledge on cocoa, constraints in farming etc. were collected in detail with the active participation of the farmers. One hectare area each of 50 farmers’ gardens was selected for establishing demonstration plots on cocoa. Adoption of improved technologies by 50 farmers is being upscaled by Department of Horticulture, KVKs and Mass media.
FLDs on Improved varieties/ technologies of tuber crops: Demonstrations on improved varieties of cassava, sweet potato, elephant foot yam, yams and taro were established in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Manipur with 50 progressive farmers during 2017-18. Data on the socioeconomic feasibility and economic viability of the technologies were assessed.
Value chain analysis of sweet potato in Karnataka: The sweet potato value chain analysis was conducted in the Belagavi district of Karnataka. (Prakash, P., Jaganathan, D., Sivakumar, P. S., Sheela Immanuel, Prabhat Kishore and Pramod Kumar. 2018. Does APMC market increase farmers income? Evidence from value chain analysis of sweet potato in Karnataka, Indian Journal of Agricultural Economics, 73(3):342-357.)
